I feel like Ritter is starting to improve a bit - the characters are developing a little more, and there were some genuinely charming moments in this book. The conceit of omitting the thirteenth chapter is especially cute, I think, and I find myself looking forward to the next entry in the series.

excellent, grizzly mystery story! can't wait for it to continue.

4.5 out of 5 stars.
YES. YES. YESSSS. ALL THE YES.

Okay, honestly, William Ritter's writing is hilarious and at the same time he does a GREAT job at explaining and developing the plot as well as the characters. This was definitely an interesting read and gained many a few actual LOL moments while reading it. I'm curious to see how the end of this book plays out into the next book.

These books are so so good I really can't wait for the next one.

I highly recommend this to fantasy, paranormal, sherlock and mystery lover!

I love everything about this book. The pacing is just right. The characters' development also quite good, nothing lacking at the moment. Like previous installment, it has one action scene that is gripping and hold reader's attention. Something about the writing that make you want to know more and more. In short, I can hardly put this down.

Only, there's one minor inaccuracy I found in the early chapters of this book.

Spoiler Jackaby mentions that there's this folklore creature that can be found in Malaysia, which at this time period, the name was still does not exist, not till 1963. We're known as British Malaya or Malaya Peninsular or simply Malaya back then
but it's okay. Just that I hope the author realize it and make better research in the future!

I enjoy this series. The characters are good, the stories are interesting, and the time period adds to the intrigue. I’m not overly attached to the characters for some reason but do kind of find myself growing more so with each book. Sometimes I zone out during the audiobook but I really don’t have any complaints! I like how it ended with a nice lead-in for the next book too.

This was a well-paced follow-up to a good first book. I'm dying to get inside Jackaby's head to know more about what it's like to "see." I was also glad Charlie still had a nice presence in the book even though he's out of London.

I freaking adore these books and am looking forward to the third one so, so much. With the second book in a series, it's usually the worst, but I was not disappointed. The characters, story line, and pacing was perfect. I really enjoyed it, maybe even more than the first one. I would recommend this book to anyone. 5 out of 5 stars. I love it so, so, so much.
