So, technically I started reading this one before the first one--woops. I picked this one up first and I didn't realize...

Oh, well.

Either way, I loved these books.

I really liked the paranormal side of this book, along with the historical-fiction aspect--although that isn't brought up much except for when Abigail talks about corsets.

I do like Abigail, though. She's a little ordinary for being the main character, but that's okay sometimes. And besides, on the other hand, Jackaby is a little too much like The Doctor from Doctor Who for me, but the good news is that I like Doctor Who. I only wish Jackaby was an actual original character instead of a photocopy of The Doctor.

Also, P.S. SPOILERS--

Did anyone actually solve the Oblong Bruise Murders??

This book was just as amazing as its first and I loved how we got to explore some new territory with a familiar face!! Besides obviously loving Jackaby and Abby I throughly enjoyed getting to know Hudson, Nellie, Horner, Brisbee and even Lamb (thought I wanted to hit him over the head a dozen times.) Even better was Charlie being included in the story and at last Abby taking initiative!! Cannot wait to pick up the next book in this series!

The second in the Jackaby series is a very fun read. I found the plot carried me along at such a pace that I didn't have much time to think. The characters were bright and fun, and the twists were unexpected. Lots of great character moments and good fun times. I was a little surprised by a plot hole near the end, where the characters seemed rather unconcerned to not have solved part of the mystery that I thought was the most important, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.

"Some girls work in shops or sell flowers. Some girls find husbands and play house. I assist a mad detective in investigating unexplained phenomena—like fish that ought to be cats but seem to have forgotten how. My name is Abigail Rook, and this is what I do."

b o r i n g. I considered DNF'ing this book plenty of times but I couldn't bring myself to do it because I like certain characters a lot. The last book was very paranormal whereas this book had a different feel it to, maybe more scientific and not as humorous as the previous, I don't know but I wasn't a fan of this one at all. The plot line had me bored out of my mind and it ended in a way that gives us a intro to what the third book is going to be about. I'm highly intrigued since the third revolves around one of my favorite characters (who is a secondary character) but this book was such a let down, I haven't decided if I will continue with this series.

The second in the Jackaby series. Abigail and her employer Jackaby are called in to investigate two suspicious murders surrounding an archaeological dig near New Fiddleham that has uncovered the bones of a massive creature, possibly a dinosaur. But nothing surrounding Jackaby is straightforward, and they soon find themselves fighting for their lives. An enjoyable continuation of a fun series.

Still going strong. I love Jenny and Abigail's friendship, and this one really tugged at the heartstrings. It also sets up a major arc, and I am excited for the rest of it. This one has a more western feel than the first one (more stock Victorian fantasy) but it was well done and had some lovely new characters. Abigail's character is also given more depth.

There is also a riff on piltdown man, for any of you anthropology nerds:)

Enjoyed even more than the first book.

3.5*

If the first one's plot didn't sink that well this one was completely with?¿?

Thwle writing maintained itself and was entertaining enough.

Storywise... it started up right where the first one ended and with a creep stalker (highly anticipated, but we'll have to wait), we had a little road trip and then we find some corpses and some dinosaur remains?? The thing got silly from that moment, but I still had my suspicions or wishes of some kind of a vampirous creep to find as culprit... I guess I was 50/50 on that one but still the main plot didn't end there and just took a turn to crazytown/completely-unbelievabletown. And yes, I think it was right in the first chapter where they basically tell you what will happen...
If one thing, I found more evolution in the characters and the storyline in this second book than in the first one, so that was a plus.

I was glad to have a bit of a road trip so that we could visit our friend Charlie, but still there wasn't enought of him, poorly poorly treated character with lots of possibilities!!
Although in the other hand Miss Took did surprise in a positive way become even more badass!!

Unpredictable and endless fun! Review to come.

I enjoyed this one just as much as the first. It was the same quirky, whimsical, fun feel to it. I still love Abigail and Jackaby and I can't wait to read the next book!
