Lots of fun!

This is my second book in the "Jackaby" series. I loved this book more than the first (I quite enjoyed that one)! Ritter spent a good deal of time in his first novel establishing his characters, main and side, and that paid off in his second novel. There is no need to delve into certain parts of this world because we already know them. He brought back both Marlowe and Charlie. He gave us some new faces. He didn't hold back on some surprising narrative decisions. And most importantly, you are now understanding that these stories are not unconnected but actual bits to an overarching narrative, we are just learning about.

Kudos to Mr. Ritter, once more, for not falling into the trap of other series and shipping her main characters. I love the relationship between Abigail and Jackaby. It's funny and sweet and annoying like family ties usually are. I appreciate the slow burn between Abigail and Charlie. I am so very very very looking forward to finding out more about Jenny and her death. The new adversary (who I assume represents the likes of Moriarty) has me puzzled and intrigued.

Like the previous book, the mystery wasn't complicated, although, I was definitely surprised and intrigued by our big bad. But, I like that about these books. They are fun and easy to read. They make me smile and I want to continue in this world.

Also just because I thought it was cool: DRAGONS! HERE THERE BE DRAGONS!

I really enjoyed this. Highly recommend.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
