This book was interesting in the way that history or ideas you are aware of, but haven't done a deep dive can be. I read this, with knowledge of Montezuma, Cortes and others by name, but not by accomplishment. The book is written to focus on the significance of the characters and events and doesn't tend to judge those subjects. Is it well written? For the most part. There is some herky jerky here and there, but overall it flows well. I was surprised that it took 330 pages to cover 2 years, but there is a goodly amount of research herein and it is presented in a good balance between encyclopedia britanica and wikipedia.
