What I understood seemed okay, but I was just confused most of the time and didn't really know who was talking or what was happening.
Didn't help that people went by multiple names either.

A delicious cocktail with hints of Steifvater’s Raven Boys and Bardago’s Grishaverse. There is just SO much going on here to explain it well. There is a little information dumping in the beginning, but the world and magic is extremely complex. Pay attention. The cards are important. Thank goodness for the glossary at the back.

Don't let Alexi and Kasia fool you. The story in the undercurrent is the riptide that will steal your breath away.

For those who like their fantasy neat, no chaser.

I hated this book. The magic system was confusing and parts kept getting added to it randomly. The changing perspectives was also not for me and made the story boring. Also the character romantic relationships were awful. Truly there was nothing about this book that I enjoyed.

First book in this series that sets the scene for this alternate world of ley lines and magic governed by different factions of curates. Political motives and conspiracies unravel and it’s not always clear who are the good guys or bad guys. I’m interested in how these characters evolve in book 2 as the pawns are in play.
Recommend for those who enjoy fantasy novels with politics - slightly gothic.
