I like July's movies, and this book did a good job of capturing her spirit - overall, I probably prefer her work in other media, but it was nice to be able to revisit small portions a bit more easier, and to have things filtered down into writing.
Read it in a short amount of time. I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I did. Good read.
This is a delightful, voyeuristic book. July creeps into the lives of PennySaver sellers and discovers a menagerie of ordinary people lost to time and technology. She is stuck in time herself, procrastinating the completion of a screenplay which will eventually be called The Future. The stories were a little superficial and always ended just as I started wanting more. I also felt like July treated her subjects a little too cavalierly. Did she really hear Carolyn say diddle? Even if she had, wasn't it a little prurient to add to the story? I dunno.

Delightful, humorous, and mischievously sly... a little treasure. I have enjoyed her work since first seeing her and her film - Me and You and Everyone We Know
I enjoyed this book--- I thought it was a neat concept but would have liked if the interviews were a bit more in depth. It was rad that she had pictures taken of the people she met... just wanted a little more. Worth reading.

I'm left very confused. Did Miranda July make this ostensible screenplay into a movie? Did she make up the whole concept behind this book? The people she describes meeting in this book, did she actually meet them? Or was the whole thing a complete fiction? As a narrative, it was, like its characters, cluttered and disorganized.
What happens when an artist tout court is not able to finish the script she was working on? She invents a wonderful book in which she interviews people who had their offers on a newspaper ad. The result is a book of photographs moving and true.

I was stunned at how much I enjoyed this book because I was SO turned off by "Me You and Everyone..." that I immediately turned it off. July still comes across a bit clueless and pretentious but there's some amazing stuff in here, and a lot to think about. It also gave me some real insight into the precious and pretentious! Ha! Seriously, it was very sincere and unflinchingly honest, and I loved that.
I wish I had the courage to go around interviewing people from the penny saver. My life is so heterogeneous. We're all basically the same people with the same goals and the same car. There's a whole world out there and this book is a delightful glimpse of it.
