The book seems to have many layers. I'm not sure where the playlist falls into the story, but I enjoyed listening to the odd collection of songs while I read it. 91

The last three or four chapters actually brought some tears in my eyes. Didn't expect that at all.

This book manages to deal incredibly well with the topics of suicide and grief and it combines two of my favourite things - books and music. Every single chapter of this book comes along with a song (27 chapters and songs in total).
I also really feel the need to mention how much I loved the characters. Sam in particular is one of the most sweet, thoughtful people I've ever read about. He doesn't let the fact that his best friend committed suicide take from his unending kindness one bit. And even though he's angry and sad and upset, he manages to let his feelings aside and view things with a clear perspective and with understanding. I wish we could all be a little more like Sam.

Enjoyed this book, but I know my partner will like it even more! The characters are interesting and believable and you actually care about them. The writing was good and the mystery behind Hayden's suicide keeps you reading.

Parts of this book was very unrealistic but overall it gave me Perks of Being a Wallflower vibes and I really enjoyed it.

Playlist for the Dead was different than what I was expecting it to be, but not necessarily in a bad way. It focused more on the aftermath of suicide and the questions, thoughts, and feelings, people are plagued with who were intertwined with the victim. The main character has lost his best friend and his reaction is portrayed realistically as well as the lessons that he learns throughout the book. The book also points out how there are multiple sides to a story and how simple things can lead to their decisions, and those decisions impact others. It also teaches you how important it is to truly listen to people. All in all, it's a read that contains life lessons that is worth reading at least once.
