This book was really fast paced and kept my interest for 3/4 of the book. Then it started introducing a new storyline/ character development that I swear was only there to set up a future series. Otherwise I can't figure out the role they played in the bigger picture. But still a good read overall (be prepared to really suspend reality though). I would have cut out the extraneous storyline that was introduced but never came to fruition, and then it would be 4-stars for me.

A great debut by Nora Murphy! Compelling thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Can’t wait to read her next novel when it releases later this year.
Have you ever been abused? Do you know someone who has? It seems that abusive relationships nothing typically in common; rich, poor, middle class, it can happen to anyone.
McKenna and Leah are just existing in their lives, they try to stay off their abusive husbands radars and do everything they’re demanded to do. These women have never met. And yet, they have so much in common that’s purely coincidental. The murders of their husbands however, are those pure coincidence?
This story was really good, it was sad but, very cathartic as the men were shot. Abuse is something that’s not spoken about, it’s a hush hush sort of thing. This novel was so good, it was hard to put down. It was riveting and kept me on the edge of my seat. I really enjoyed it and for that it’s getting five stars. Thank you so very much to the author, NetGalley and St Martins Press for the review copy!

Wow guys, this is a debut domestic suspense and was everything I could've asked for. Leah and McKenna have never met. They live in the same neighborhood though. Both are married, both are educated, and HAD careers. Their lives are mirror images of the other especially because of the Unspeakable things happening behind closed doors.
Debut book by this author...I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was a little predictable, but all the details made the story an entertaining one. I read this in one sitting! I will definitely read this author again. 4.5 solid stars.

This was an intense read about two high paid women who are trapped with men that start to control and abuse them. I really enjoyed this raw, intense book. Murphy is an incredible writer who knows how to grip your feelings and give you all the feels. I'm telling you that everything that was happening in the book, I could feel in my own body. This book was fast paced and kept you thrilled. The chapters are also short so it feels like you are finishing the book quicker because I read this book in two days. The only problem that I kind of had was that I think the alternating pov could have been better or clearer because sometimes it would get a bit confusing.
The main characters in this book are McKenna and Leah. Both women are facing relationship issues and have/had high paying jobs; one a doctor the other a lawyer. Their stories show how even though they have amazing jobs, they too faced abusive relationships. They have great character development and I enjoyed reading their stories. There is a third pov who is the detective and I enjoyed his involvement too with the murder mystery. There are some side characters in this book, some whom you can guess and would prefer they disappear. There is kissing in this book but not the romance type but more they had to.
The ending was very well done and I enjoyed this book. It was such an amazing read and I'm so glad to have read this book. Usually when it comes to abusive topics, I tend to skip it but this one caught my eye because of how good the summary sounded. Murphy is a great plotter and an amazing writer. I totally recommend this to fans of thriller/mystery books.

I love a good domestic thriller and this one, by debut author Nora Murphy, was great!
Both Leah and McKenna live separate lives, and both are abused by their husbands. One day a chance encounter at a liquor store leads to a chain reaction of events that neither can come back from.
I was hooked from the first page and could not flip the pages fast enough to see how things turned out. The characters are well developed and the writing is powerful and well executed. Told from multiple POV’s, I was invested fully in both women’s stories and rooting for them both.
The author is an attorney who has a background in violent partner cases and her knowledge shines through in the delicate yet impactful way that she details the psychological and emotional abuse these characters went through. This book is out on 5/31!

The book has a quite good beginning which has kept me go on reading, yet the plot development is a little bit disappointing. I solved the puzzle pretty earlier into the book, thus it is a little boring to me.
