They've never met, but they can set each other free...

Leah and McKenna are perfect strangers, but they are both trapped in the same nightmare. They are both married to seemingly perfect, professional, and wealthy men. Their marriages and lives appear to be idyllic and enviable from the outside, but under the surface, they are far from it. In fact, McKenna and Leah are both living in precarious and dangerous marriages, with no end or escape in sight. On a drive through McKenna's neighbourhood one night, Leah witnesses something that is all too familiar to her. She decides then and there that even if she can't get out, McKenna can. Leah will make sure of that.
I really enjoyed this book, and found it difficult to put down. I was very invested in the characters and really wanted the best for them. There were some parts that felt a bit repetitive throughout the story, but I still found it to be a very engaging and thrilling read. I could easily identify with McKenna and Leah and my heart broke for them. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys domestic thrillers.

Please note that this novel can be triggering to survivors or witnesses of domestic abuse.

Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books and Nora Murphy for free e-ARC in return of my honest review.

While I enjoyed reading the book, I couldn't help but feel that it lacked the wow factor that I was hoping for. The plot was intriguing, but it felt all too familiar, almost like a retelling of Strangers on a Train, but with female characters. Despite this, I found myself invested in the story and curious to see how it would all unfold. The writing was solid, and the characters were well-developed, but I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something missing. Overall, it was a fine read, but not one that I would consider amazing.

Leah and McKenna know one another's lives well. They know the struggles and the secrets most of all. However, Leah and McKenna do not know one another. However, one night McKenna sees something happen at Leah's house, and she knows how it goes because it's her story, too. Not only does she see what's happening, but she decides to take action on Leah's behalf. Y'all, this was a thriller that is also chock full of feels. It's told from three perspectives - Leah, McKenna, and a detective who investigates after things go down - and y'all know how much I love multiple narrators! The advantage of these three narrators is it also lets the reader see the story from all angles, including what's really happening behind close doors. I found the story to be a pageturner because I was invested in what was going to happen to McKenna and Leah as they are each carrying and hiding so much from others. This one is so well told and definitely packs so many thrills. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this May 2022 release!
