A different take on a familiar story. I couldn’t put it down but found the story between the detective and his partner lacking. I was hoping for more there.
Gripping from beginning to end. The premise of this story is very different. Two women in the same situation and thinking so much alike. Perhaps, they see themselves in each other yet they do not know each other. Leah and McKenna's characters were full of life and well developed. However, I am confused about the development of Detective Jordan Harrison as a character. He is one of the main characters and yet, he had no back story. I guess inserting his partner Cole into the story was supposed to be his backstory; except it became confusing. Cole neither helped nor hurt the story. She was simply there and did absolutely nothing to propel Detective Harrison's character or storyline. That was a negative to this otherwise perfect mystery.

I loved this suspense novel from debut author, Nora Murphy. The Favor has often been compared to Gone Girl which is high praise in my opinion and completely fair. The storyline is thought-provoking, and the characters though maddening are created fairly well. I was hoping for a fast-paced thriller, and was worried when the plot line started slow. The initial slow pacing ending up leading to more intrigue, and I was happily surprised when thirty percent into the story the plot quickly changed pace. I can easily say that after you get into the book The Favor becomes a “finish in one sitting type of book.” I will definitely be looking for more from Nora Murphy.
This is a great re-imagining of Strangers on a Train.
Two women are trapped in similar circumstances. And Leah knows what's happening to McKenna, because it's happening to her. Two professional women, slowly losing their personalities and self concept to the controlling and domineering men in their lives. And before they know it, they are trapped. Unless, they can save each other.
There are definite triggers for domestic abuse (psychological and physical) but it is not gratuitous. This debut author skillfully lays out the circumstances that lead to a harrowing state of affairs, and the relentless police officer who tries to unravel the mystery.
I thought having the officer's partner as a comatose sounding board was a little unnecessary device and broke up the flow of the women's stories, but as it was kept to a minimum at the end of the book. I read this in a day and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a great debut novel by Nora Murphy!

Well that was crazy! I enjoyed this bc it was fast paced and interesting. It made me sad for these women to live these lives but then see how it all turned out was a bit nuts! A great fun thriller! Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review
I finished this book in one setting! The suspense is thick and heavy! Just the way I like it! The writing is absolutely fantastic! The pace is nonstop and I ending was wonderful! Such an amazing read! I can't wait to see what Nora Murphy will give us next!
