The Favor

3.7 AVERAGE

It’s been a long time since I read majority of a book in one day. I think the topic of domestic violence whether it’s in a book, movie, or memoir isn’t talked about enough. I appreciate the research and resources the author provided. 5 stars for the way it kept me engaged.

The Favor was one of those books I was not expecting to have as many twists as it did, but boy did this one keep me on the edge of my seat. I honestly can't say too much about the book without giving major plot twists away. Full disclosure, this book does have some major trigger warnings including domestic violence, gun violence, alcoholism, miscarriage, and infant loss, however, they are crucial storylines to the book. I did appreciate that the author includes a section at the back with numbers and websites to contact if you are faced with domestic violence.

Overall, a really great thriller that you won't be able to put down.

Thank you Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley for an early copy to review. I enjoyed the narrators and always appreciate books that use multiple narrators for the various perspectives. The storyline was a good domestic fiction book with a slight thriller element. I wasn’t really shocked by anything which is what I want in a “thriller.” So in that way I was a little disappointed. But overall I enjoyed the way the story played out.

I really enjoyed this book! The Favor is a well written, quick read that draws you in right of the hop. Leah and McKenna are smart and strong characters stuck in terrible situations and you pull for them to be the victors. Looking forward to more books from Nora Murphy!

Thank you to Netgalley and Minotaur Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

**Trigger warning for domestic abuse though, so be mindful of this.

Received an ARC via NetGalley.

I enjoyed the book but I’m having a hard time articulating why. I think it was just a satisfying story. The tensions for the narrators in their home life are difficult but the way their stories unfold are uplifting, somehow.

The only thing that gave me pause was midway through when the detective joined the narration. It seemed out of place and I thought it would ruin the pacing of the book. But it worked. I don’t think anything was lost by adding his voice. I think it could have been told without him too but I think the added perspective made sense.

Such a cool story and different kind of twist. Would have been 5 stars but I felt like it kind of dragged on for 50 pages too long

This exciting book tells the story of two women with the same secret lives. I found the first half of the story very compelling. The second half moved a little slowly for me. All in all it was an interesting book.

OMG I couldn’t put this one down!! This was my first time reading this author, and I’ll definitely be reading more. The way she depicted these characters was fantastic. Even though I’ve never been in this situation at all, the women were very relatable and I totally resonated with both of them. This book did a great job and showing that it is truly so hard to escape an abusive partner. I loved the suspense and that twist right at the beginning! My jaw literally dropped. And the ending was perfect. This was everything I could want in a thriller!
