Who KNEW that federal monies were used during the Great Depression to interview thousands of formerly enslaved persons throughout the country, and that some 3500 written interviews (and about 300 photographic portraits) were collected, transcribed, and saved in the U.S. Library of Congress?  What a remarkable collection of memories!  About a hundred of these interviews are shared in this newly published book.  They are poignant and moving beyond words, given that Black Americans are STILL fighting for equality all these years later.  The original interviewees were in their eighties, nineties and beyond at the time their stories were collected, but their recollections are vividly sharp.  The book is a quick read and it made me wish to have access to more.
