Pretty sure I said “wtf” on every other page, but, like, in a good way.

On the whole, it was a little uneven. Some stories were great, others not so much. "Bounty," for its part, didn't feel fully defined. The narrative just kind of barrelled along without adding much besides plot and occasionally strained dialogue.

Really enjoyed this collection of short stories. Evocative, enough strageness to make it unsettling but not so strange as to make it un-relateable, and really packing a punch into 6-10 pages. Isabella and The 400 Pound CEO are stories that will really stay with you.

Be sure to read s.penkevich's review below. Really beautifully said.

" I have a sense that God is unfair and preferentially punishes his weak, his dumb, his fat, his lazy. I believe he takes more pleasure in his perfect creatures, and cheers them on like a brainless dad as they run roughshod over the rest of us."

This was a much darker read than I had expected, but I still loved it. The author’s note at the end was especially heartwarming and fun to read.

I couldnt give this three stars, because it is too well written, but part of me wanted to, because its just so gddmed painful and nihilistic. My goodness, I do not really want to know what exactly Saunders' psyche is like in order to yield this strange fruit. I do think he is a masterful writer and storyteller, and I definitely plan to read some of his other works. But I think I will fix a stiff drink first.
