The Man Sitting in the Corridor by Barbara Bray, Marguerite Duras

realized pretty quickly this isn’t a good entry point into duras’ written work—her prose here is pared down to an almost axiomatic directness but I think I’m missing a lot by not being aware of what has been pared away. like how a skeleton doesn’t give much information on an organism’s appearance, and as with this tiny book, that isn’t the fault of the skeleton. I will simply have to circle back.

Il n'y a que Marguerite pour décrire des scènes crues (et inattendues) avec une telle poésie.

interesting look into violence and love.
Also fascinated and would like to research further into how Duras uses nature/landscape to position her stories

[Review of the English translation]
Thin, but dense in texture. This is a jewel of a prose work. While reading, I felt like I was looking at timeless images from a photo album so rich and controlling is the language on the page. Read, then re-read.
