Tbh Dorian Gray really irritates me. He's annoying because, despite being influenced by Lord Henry's warped beliefs, he eventually makes the decision to be corrupted himself. Lord Henry is so dangerous, his views occasionally seem intelligent or even real, but the majority of the time, they are nothing more than elegantly wrapped poison.

And, Basil. He is the only person who can truly see Dorian's soul for what it is: innocent, compassionate, and brimming with love. He embodies the light and honesty that the world around Dorian seems to be lacking.

The way beauty may destroy someone so thoroughly, even in this day and age, is frighteningly reflected in this tale.

I don’t think I paid much attention to this book the first time I read it. It could be easy to do, there is a LOT of philosophy about different things throughout the book. It’s hard to know what philosophies are Wilde’s own and what philosophies are being criticized by Wilde. This book is super gay — it’s not really even debatable, in my opinion. I love the language of this time period, and you can’t beat a simple, terrifying Faustian story like this.

Oscar Wilde is the sassiest, funniest, gayest writer. Everything about this book is phenomenal and everyone should read it.
