SPOILERS INBOUND, READ AT YOUR OWN ENJOYMENT

(don't ruin the fun for yourself, the TL;DR of this review is 100% read it - I really do recommend this book <3)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ~ 5/5 stars
TL;DR - One of my favourite books of all time, the whole series being just amazing after amazing installment. Scott Lynch does an amazing job at fleshing out the world, the characters and everything that's at stake. While I am at awe of this series altogether I do think Scott Lynch's prose, at least in my experience, took a while to get used to. But when it did, it really hit home with me.

Oh boy, my first review of a book! Hope I don't screw this up so much haha

If I were to be honest with you, and I mean really honest with you, I have quite literally never been the same since I read The Lies of Locke Lamora. Picking it up around June of 2024 after a random book reccomendation video was the best thing to happen to me (and my brain, which starts to rabidly foam at the mouth once Locke or any character from the series is mentioned haha)

While yes, the book is very slow and character-driven at the start - Scott Lynch's prose and writing took me practically until
the Grey King and Falconer did an impromptu kindnapping on Locke
to get used to, I REALLY got into it afterwards. And the previous point is exactly why I really adore this book, it gets you out of the comfort zones one might have while reading books. We all start to know usual book tropes and cliches while reading more and more, to the point we start to think "Right, this will 100% happen since, c'mon, this exact thing has happened a million times before. It wouldn't fall short this time around, won't it?" This is NOT the case with Scott Lynch because I physically got FLABBERGASTED and had to just sit in silence, digesting the moment, every time he just pulled a 180 on the reader, and that is part of the reason I continued with the series. Ohhh Scott Lynch, the man of mystery that you are 💖

Not to mention both the highs and lows of the book. You really do feel how Scott Lynch is not afraid to do anything to the characters -
make The Grey King kill Nazca, not to mention the death of everyone in the Gentleman Bastards except Jean and Locke.
He really does not feel any sort of remorse at putting the main characters in pain, greiving or a dangerous situation (proven a lot by the third installment to the series, but that's a story for another day ;'3). The highs really do feel high and the lows have you really having a feel for what the characters are going though. And the aforementioned detailed, witty writing style of Lynch helps you immerse yourself into the world of Camorr, even if it takes a while like it did for me.

While I do lack a lot to write about the book any further, mostly due to the fact I still didn't grasp at most things until like 3/7 of the way through, I am planning on doing a reread of this book as soon as possible. I really do love the bastards - and hell, anything to bide the time until we get any concrete news on Thorn of Emberlain (the 4th installment of the book) would be amazing haha. Nevertheless, I warmly recommend anybody who has been planning on picking this up on doing so since this is an underappreciated gem these days <3

It took me some time to get into, but when you get past the first few pages you're in a gripping story with multiple layers.

Absolutely phenomenal! The storytelling is engrossing. The dialogue is gritty and bloody damn humorous. The world is so very textured and smartly written. Locke Lamora and his little gang of Gentleman Bastards are endeared to you instantaneously. Locke is the definition of a rapscallion. Jean Tannen, you are to Locke what Samwise was to Frodo (just larger and more deadly with a set of hatchets).

This book has been on my TBR for years and is my husband’s’ all time favorite book. Now I understand why and will have to agree with him 110%.

Ocean's 11 + Game of Thrones + RobinHood, it's the simple description of this book.
[a:Scott Lynch|73149|Scott Lynch|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1332432746p2/73149.jpg] has done an amazing job with this book. It is kind of book if you start reading it you will not be able to stop until you have finished it. You get immersed in the story and life of characters. There are many twists and turns in this book that you just don't want to keep it down if you will do that then you will eventually end up thinking about it only. You want to know what happens to the characters. You get attached to the characters and care about them.

This story tells you how important is loyalty towards your friends and the people who care about you. It reminds you that you should be grateful for everything that you have in your life and you should show gratitude to every person who shows gratitude towards you.
