Hokans Nesers ir viens no “ražīgākajiem” Zviedrijas kriminālromānu autoriem - sarakstījis neskaitāmus trillerus vairākās grāmatu sērijās. Inspektoram Barbaroti veltītas sešas grāmatas, latviski no tām tulkotas pirmās divas.

Przeczytałam pierwsze 30% i ostatnie 20%.

A, zakończenie w sumie też w jakimś stopniu przewidziałam.

This is quite an interesting detective novel as it isn't so much a 'who done it' as it is about the question of how it actually unfolds. I really liked many of the characters. Barbarotti is a very promising lead character, Kristofer is interesting and the two sisters, although not likeable, create an interesting story. How do you actually react when two people of your family disappear? How strong can we be?

Really good crime novel. I liked the writing style and the different point of views.
Very different from the main stream crime novel in the way that it doesn’t start with a murder, but only two disappearings a few chapters in, and on top of that you don’t meet the detective until 180-or-so pages in. Still it’s a mix of whodunnit and what actually happened.

This was just dull. I was intrigued by the character/situation setup that took up most of the first 150 pages, but as soon as Inspector Barbarotti came in, it might as well have ground to a halt. Because in reality, he pretty much brought nothing to the table. His quirks weren't interesting, he never seemed to have a good handle on what was going on, and without him the story would probably have ended up exactly the same. What a waste of an interesting subject. Add to that the fact that most action takes place 'off-screen' for lack of a better phrase (including the ending), and you have yourself a pretty disappointing read.
