One of the best so far in the series. I have come to love the characters and the world building. For a 700 page book, this is very fast paced and I love how King pulls it together.

I just have to keep thinking, hoping, praying that maybe, potentially, there's a chance that eventually, maybe within the next 1000 pages, King might, perhaps, finally get to what might vaguely approach the point.

Also, writing about a book store featuring yourself, and then having a character be ripped wholesale from another of your own books and write about them being shocked when they discover that book about themself… it just feels hoaky and contrived, and like King is just trying to self-shill.

Starts slow but I was hooked by the second half. My second favorite in the DT series so far.

The Dark Tower series really is a gestalt of all the things King threw into a blender to create a mad smoothie of tale. We got your fantasy. We got your horror. We got your western. We got your romance. We got your rote thriller. We got you supernatural. We got your metafiction. Seriously, this damned series takes you on a ride.

Its a ride not all will enjoy. Admittedly "The Wind Through the Keyhole" somewhat threw me off, but again it was written after the series proper was completed. The book previous "Wizard and Glass" was a misdirection to be sure. I do anticipate not many were expecting the extended flashback that makes up the core of that novel. So, I doubt people were expecting characters from Salem's Lot showing up seemingly from nowhere. Yes, there has been a level of interconnectedness in King's work--but to tie in Salem's Lot itself might be a touch unknown.

Then there is the metafictional twist in the epilogue. From what I understand of the series--it was King's way of commenting on and elaborating on the variety of storytelling techniques available to fantasy authors. Fantasy is just reality jammed into a fantastic prism.

This novel is by far the most Supernatural Western Fantasy Sci Fi story since book one--and that book really didn't have sci-fi elements...so go figure.

Two more books left. Away we go. Following the path of the beam.

This book is based on Kurosawa's seven samurai-style story. The Gunslinger and his crew come to a town that is constantly raided by seemingly mystical wolves, and they must protect the people. It is a fun adaptation, that fits perfectly into the realm of the Dark Tower, and advances the epic nicely.
