This yoga book won't work for everyone. She is not afraid to swear and speak her truth. Stanley touches on a lot of subjects including fatphobia, racism, sexual assault and more. I personally found it refreshing and empowering. I have had a fear of studios for a long time not simply due to the cost, but the clique feeling that I often sense when I pass through the doors. Last weekend though, I had an incredible yoga experience and this book enhanced that journey for me.

"All wounds need to breathe, no matter how painful or smelly. even the wounds you'd rather keep hidden."

"I began to notice the difference between who I am in the privacy of my own identity and who I choose to be in front of other people."

"I'm the only one who will ever know me, and I'm enough. Imposter syndrome is a distraction from the work at hand."

"Remember that the body is not the experience. Life is experienced by the mind through the body. The body is only a vehicle." (Satchidananda, 92)

"I think the art of aging is to age with humility and grace. To age and enjoy the process. To welcome age with open arms."

"Only when you stop judging yourself and let all your thoughts flood in will the stillness come. The stillness lives between the cracks in our chaos."

"It's not his responsibility to believe in my version of the Truth. We can agree to disagree."

I see myself returning to the thoughts in this book. I loved it.

This is a poetic reflection mixing memoir and spiritual suggestion that was just right for the time I read it. Could see returning to this for grounding. Definitely meandering and there were plenty of stories I'd love to hear more about, but in some ways that added to the sense that Stanley only shared what she wanted, which I can't fault.
