Ellery has just gone through a painful and unwanted divorce.  She and her ex husband had already planned and paid for a trip to an exclusive resort in Big Sur for the 20th wedding anniversary.  Rather than let the trip go unused, or worse yet, used by him and his new girlfriend, Ellery decides to go solo on the trip. Ellery is still really upset about the end of her marriage and then when she arrives she finds out there is a big wedding taking place which adds insult to injury.  Then, shockingly, she discovers the body of the groom dead in the resort pool.  From there things just go from bad to worse.  There is a huge storm which washes out the only road in and out of the resort, and eventually knocks out the power as well.  What follows is an Agatha Christy type of locked room mystery.  This was quite the page turner with super short, propulsive chapters.  Doubt was cast on nearly everyone staying at the resort and Ellery definitely never knew quite who to trust.  There were tons of twists and turns along the way that kept me guessing.  There was also another storyline telling about Ellery's past and another event that she was involved in. Throughout the story, she meets some really interesting people and also starts to figure out her own life in the midst of all the craziness going on around  her.  Overall, a fun and fast paced thriller, perfect for Summer reading.  Also a @reesesbookclub pick for June.  Hers have been working pretty well for me lately.

How absolutely trite and unsatisfying. It had a decent build up and the payoff was just so mundane.

This was not a good read for me. For fans of destination wedding/locked door mysteries, you are better to go with Lucy Foley’s The Guest List.
This books seemed like a fun idea, and then it lost its identity and attempted to add other subplots to make a richer, fuller story. All it did was make more incomplete and unnecessary stories crash into each other and leave you unsatisfied. Pick one story and tell it well. That’s all I ask.

This was just an average read for me. I was sort of confused on the mystery involving the art so I wasn’t connecting with the story. I thought it took too long to let the reader know what had happened to Ellery in her past. Also, the ending was so freaking long! Once we found out who the murder was I thought it would wrap up nicely, but we got like three more chapters (which I just skimmed).
