Read this because it was recommended as being similar to The Hunger Games. Somewhat more disturbing, having classmates killing each other off, and more suspense, I thought. A little hard to keep track of all the characters though.

Addicting! Reluctant readers might be intimidated by its size, but i would recommend it to them all the same because it's such a page turner! I have to admit that parts of the book were gruesome and disturbing, but it was very well written. I really can't compare this too much to Hunger Games because while this is all about the "game", Hunger Games focuses more on how the characters are affected by the violence and their development during and after it. I think they are both great books in their own way.

I did enjoy the different perspectives and plot twists in this book quite a bit. :)

Pulsating and quite entertaining. Those two elements ensure that most of its plot weaknesses can be overlooked.

There are certain passages that leave a lot to be desired because they don't really move the plot forward and although we get to know some of the characters, ultimately it doesn't matter because you don't feel any connection with them and on more than one occasion the author gets rid of them when it seems to be the most convenient for the plot, and incidentally he protects his main characters quite a bit, but even so the story remains quite engaging and captivating.

The most ironic thing about Battle Royale is that even with the themes it deals with, especially fascism and totalitarian regimes, that plot wall behind the game could have fueled another good story. Too bad its writer only had this one story in him.

I’ve wanted to read this for a long time and finally finished it. This is a true literary classic. It’s written in a goofy way that contrasts its brutality and themes. A bunch of things caught me off guard too. I highly recommend this book.
