This book is really good at creating tension and dread. It is mostly dark with nary a glimmer of light except for the dog and the very very end.

I think in the end though it’s a good metaphor for righting wrongs and the injustice many in the past faced and how to address those atrocities moving forwarded.

Put this on my list because Darcy Coates is so prolific, and this was nominated for the choice awards. It was very nearly a DNF for me, but the third act was much better than the first two. There isn't much more to say about this book. It's very repetitive and drawn out with some odd writing choices, and then it gets kind of fun, and then the ending is fairly satisfying. Overall, not terrible, but I wish I'd skipped it.

My first proper horror book and boy was it spooky! I mean yes I scare easy but still, it was very scary. The author was incredibly descriptive and it didn’t take much to feel as if I was there too. I’m keen to check out more by this author and explore this new genre.

I usually love Darcy Coates and her dedication to haunted House stories facsinates me. But this one has too many clumsy elements and is not that well plotted.

Honestly, I was hoping for more up until about chapter 26 or so. It was very slow paced and a few times I wanted to DNF. I currently don’t have a DNF pile and didn’t want to start one. With this said, after the slow action things really picked up and reeled me in. The story really pulls itself together and it’s worth the read. If you have a hard time reading slow-paced books, this may be a bit hard for you but if you keep pushing through, you won’t regret it. Really wish I could give this a five ⭐️ rating but the pace really made me knock down a star.
