i cried (happy tears for most of it for once) and related to this too much ✌
I loved this book with all of my heart... or what was left of it by the end. I cried, laughed, sat stunned, and could NOT put this book down, no matter how hard I tried. I loved it so so sooooo much and will 100% recommend it to anyone and everyone who asks for recommendations. (Speaking of, PLEASE ask me for recommendations, I've read sooo many books) <3

It was pretty jarring to read about a teen getting kicked out of their home. Hard to understand why people would become parents if their commitment to fulfilling their most basic responsibilities is conditional. But ultimately, a very sweet found family book and an easy read.

I read this ahead of seeing the movie! This book was so cute! It makes me so excited to see the movie! Some of the best moments of the movie are when Ben and Hannah goes to Dr. Taylor and talk their shit out. It’s a great moment and I felt like their choice to bring Hannah into the picture was so important to their growth. I loved this book so much!

"Pinky promise."
First of all, this is probably one of my favorite covers of all time. The art and the colors are just so beautiful.
I was curious about this book, as a cis person who doesn't know any non-binary person, I always wondered what it would feel like. I can't if it was well portrayed or not, but since the author is non-binary I guess it was.
Ben was a great character and their coming out really made me mad (I hate their parents). I felt so bad for them, their anxiety and depression, just wanted to give them a hug (not sure they would like it though.)
Nathan was refreshing. I mean, a man who both loves Star Wars AND Pride and Prejudice ? Come on...
I also have a soft spot for Hannah and Thomas, seeing them trying so much to help Ben, making mistakes and correcting themselves. I like their character development.
Also, the diversity ? On point.
This is not my personal favorite kind of books (High School stories I mean) but it was okay.
I highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about gender. I learnt a lot.

This is a touching and emotional book, that tackles the nonbinary identity perfectly. I loved the exploration of the idea of not wanting to come ourt, of coming out going badly, of being affected by gendered language and struggling to find gender neutral language.
And Ben and Nathan's relationship was just lovely. So lovely.
The book could only improve by being longer and expanding upon some plot points, but that's mostly because I can't get enough of Ben and Mason Deaver's writing

I seriously loved this book. Ben’s story hit me hard in the best way. It was emotional, honest, and just really well done. I loved how the book handled identity and mental health without feeling heavy-handed. And Nathan? Literal sweetest. Their relationship was so soft and comforting. I teared up a few times and flew through it.
