As suspected, a 2019 ass book lol
Everyone talked weirdly and at times disingenuous. A little too sensitive for my liking but the biggest flaw of the story is the lack fo development it has. The only thing that was developed is the romance and some healing direction with Ben's sister. It just became lost in it's heartstopper ass ending. It only worked with me when we're mostly in Ben's headspace specifically before the climax of yhe book starts. There's some decent mental state I resonate as well, specifically how depression and isolation was handled. But that's kinda where the merit ends. I sure hope Deaver developed their character development in their future projects and if you're going go write a black love interest give them struggles and conflicts of their own, it's patronising if they exists to help the white main character's struggles or if they are just a "ray of sunshine".
Ngl I cringed at the "my person" exchange, like what's wrong with calling them your partner it's literally an objective description of a gender neutral term for your lover.

It starts really well. It starts with the main character coming out as a non-binary, so that’s great already. There’s not a build up for a half of the book for it. It’s literally the first chapter. And then we go from here.:)
