i liked the story against the background of tel-aviv, and the washes of the artwork. the colors were lovely and a few simple lines said a lot about the characters. the story was interesting, but not gripping. maybe it's because i don't understand estranged families - i never felt like i sympathized at all with the main character.

At first, I didn’t think I’d like the art style as it’s not my go-to, however the minimal details and block colouring meant that it was easier and more pleasing to get through. The ending left me feeling a bit unsatisfied, and 90% of the characters are so dislikeable. Alas, a gripping story, even if the bratty main characters grated on me…
I did get annoyed sometimes by how much their moods swing, it’s frustrating that they are so indecisive and, frankly, immature.

Story would be 2.5 stars, bumped up to 3.75 simply for the visual quality.

It's not entirely to my taste but it is good. The art, colouring and square panels remind me of Tintin. I thought the story was interesting, I got invested and wanted to know what happened to the protagonist's father, if he really died in the bombing or if he was just a bad father/person. The romantic subplot was a bit weird. I feel sorry for the girl.
fast-paced

I got a sunburn while reading this book. I was so distracted by the thrill of the search that I forgot to re-apply sunscreen. I suppose it's fitting considering the arid climate of the book. This really says nothing about the book, but it was pretty good, nothing spectacular, cute but ambiguous drawings, mystery story.

Meh.

Not as polished at The Property, which I read first, but Rutu Modan understands people and relationships. Nice to have simple stories that can be powerful in their humanity. I've got different conflicting feelings about Israel, and the more I read about it, and from people who actually have lived/live in Israel helps me get a better picture.

An interesting take on the actually of living in a democratic state where violence is the norm. Desensitization is the way of life. The characters in Exit Wounds are all about two-layers: the hard exterior and the vulnerable interior.

Since I traveled to Israel, this story made me remember my experiences and consider what daily life is like in that region of the world.

A little story of how 2 people can come together in the least thinkable situation. It also shows how focusing on the goal of a journey leaves so much else to be had. Take everything in! That;s my take away.
