A book of two halves featuring an enjoyable romp down the great Mississippi with some mystical intrigue.
The first half of the story deals with Gray coming to terms with the legacies from his grandfather - his boat, his lodger and that his tarot reading skills are hereditory and a bit more than he thought. The pace is leisurely, just like their trip down river.
Then we're all (reader, Gray and Cooper) flung into a world where humans with extreme talents (some precog's like Gray and his grandfather) are being targetted and some of the baddies crawl out of the woodwork. The Peril in the series title becomes apparent.
It is the first of three books, and does end almost mid paragraph - lucky for me I waited til I got all three books so my wait is just overnight! Whilst it is fairly short, the writing makes it feel longer whilst keeping the pace of the book moving. Those who want intrigue over lots of sex (its implied rather more than in detail) will enjoy - I'm off to read book 2!

4.5 stars.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story. I've never read anything by this author before and I wasn't sure where it would go. Well, needless to say, considering I started this one late last night and finished it this morning...it was pretty darn good lol.

Any story where the characters grab me, and won't let me go is a good one. And these grabbed me so strongly that I've already rushed out and bought the next two books, because I have to know what happens next. I loved the hint of suspense, although I'll admit to wanting to hit Gray upside the head at one point and tell him to open his eyes...

So, on to the next one, because honestly, I need more of these two guys!
