I really enjoyed this! It's not just the script of Return of the Jedi with a few thee's and thou's thrown in ... the author did a fantastic job of really adapting the familiar movie storyline and dialogue into something truly Shakespearian. I especially appreciated the extended soliloquies that a number of the characters had, the better to explain their motivations and true feelings. A quick but fun read.

William Shakespeare's Return of the Jedi (William Shakespeare's Star Wars, Book 3) by Ian Doescher 5★♥♥

This was a great ending to Doescher's parody to the Star Wars trilogy. Especially the ending. I loved the ending with R2-D2 giving a speech to match Puck in A Midsummer's Night Dream. I read the first two books in this parody from the library ebooks. I couldn't wait till they had they third book available (they still don't), so I bought it for my kindle. I wasn't disappointed.

The Jedi Returns is my favorite in Lucas's Star Wars trilogy (well, his movies. I've yet to read the books). It's been a long time since I've seen the movies, but Doescher really did a great job with character description in this book. It seemed almost every character had a long prose speech, even some random Imperial Guards.

My favorite part was the way the characters all described the Ewoks...
Act 3. Luke:
"A simple tribe are these, yet wise as well—
With neither guns nor lightsabers they snar’d
A pilot skill’d, a Wookiee brave and strong,
A Jedi Knight, and two most earnest droids."

I'll definitely be recommending this to my Star Wars fan friends, or just fans of a good comedy and parody.

I listened to this as an audiobook; definitely the way to go. The voice cast is first-rate (I can hardly tell that C-3PO is not the original actor for example) and the audiobooks bring the stories to life as least as well as the original Star Wars radio dramas which I also heard recently.

This was, once again, a lot of fun. I got a signed edition from the Forbidden planet, which added that little extra for me.

The formula at this point is known. It faithfully follows the story of a Star Wars movie but transforms it into a iambic pentameter. It works for me though, and it kept working also through this edition. I had a great time reading it. And I think if you are into Star Wars and want to have the same story in a slightly different way, try these books.

"My misting eyes are nothing like my son's— thou art so beautiful to me. How strong thy features, with thy mother's gentle face. A man thou art, and ev'ry part my son. I never have been prouder, all my life."
