Listened as an audiobook and it felt very long for little payoff. A lot of not necessary details. It might read better as a physical book but it’s like I was waiting for something crazy to happen, but it was all pretty predictable :/

Although it started out slow, my intrigue never wavered throughout. I enjoyed the layout of the novel which was told in past and present timelines, and I was equally enamored by both storylines and the depth of the relationships within them. A beautiful story about love, loss, moving on and intrigue and suspense to boot. Highly recommend!

SO GOOD! Howard has a masterful way of writing a thrilling mystery that I couldn't put down. This book was amazing, including a strong female lead with complex emotions and great instincts, a killer that leaves you with mixed feelings, and the potential for healing at the end. The twists and turns were amazing too, bouncing back and forth between Alison now, helping the Garda solve the case, and Alison then, trying to wrestle with being a college kid and then dealing with the aftermath of the Canal Killer case. Howard reveals everything slowly, but at a pace that makes perfect sense and just leaves you wanting more. The ending was so well-done, keeping me on my toes and then making me gasp in shock at the last scene. Amazing! 5/5 stars! I'll definitely be reading more of her work as soon as I can!!
