I think this was a case of "right book, wrong time." The novel starts off very strong and kept me engaged until the halfway mark. But from there, the narrative drags on. It's an insensitive thing to say, really, but I do wish the novel had been shorter. We get so much insight into smaller things that it made me slug through the reading.
