Lee does it again. The setting and atmosphere are so rich.  The dread is tangible. This book doesn’t disappoint.

"HOPE IS TRAPPED MOTH BATTERING ITSELF AGAINST A WINDOW"

Beverley Lee is a true master of horror, deviating about its subgenres with an easy elegance that speaks volumes of her talent into the ether. As ever, her prose is an eloquently spun trap set to ensnare the reader with exquisite execution.

The Sum of Your Flesh is a tightly woven tapestry of incredible, reprehensible and relatable characters, of a riveting plot that unspools itself between your fingers like a loosed bobbin.

Haven is visiting the small, remote village on the wings of plea from his late friend, having bestowed upon him the task of caring for his younger brother– "who is not what he seems".  Meredith is returning to the epicenter of her youth, nestled amongst the very same village's cobwebs and whispers, to a house noone dared to step in.

Lee perfectly pens the claustrophobia and outsider oppression experienced in such a small place. Her use of language building emotion and dread whilst capturing all in cinematic detail. The narrative itself oozes a mysterious nectar that saturates the mind with intrigue and wonder, but nothing can truly prepare you for where it will lead you.

It is the kindling, the spark and then the raging fire, and you will not be able to tear yourself away from it.

Some connections are inevitable.

It was a delight to feel scared from a well written moody book again!
