Just finished this book and it was so good! I’ve read the rest of the books that come before it and it was incredible to read this one. I can’t wait for the next one if he’s planning on writing more. I love the sarcasm that is throughout these books. Halt and Will’s humor is just the best. I was sad that it didn’t continue the Gilan and Jenny storyline at all and that Halt wasn’t present in this book. He was mentioned but we never actually saw him since the entire book is about a mission that Will and Maddie have in Celtica. That’s also the reason that Gilan and Jenny weren’t talked about. This book definitely dabbled in the supernatural/magic more then any of the previous ones did but I felt like it addressed it really well. I’d definitely recommend this to any fans of the other Rangers Apprentice and Brotherband books. Just make sure you read the other Royal Ranger ones before you read these.

Very disappointing usually love these stories. Too much "magic" for my taste for these stories

I've enjoyed all the Ranger's Apprentice, Royal Ranger, and Brotherband books, but this one has got to be my least favorite. There was very little build up, very little actual action or intrigue, no humor, and no ingenious solution. The final conflict was disappointingly anticlimactic and there was a focus on black magic and demons that the other books haven't really had. Altogether I'm actually a little disappointed. 1.5 stars, rounded up to 2 because I have fond memories of reading and discussing these books with my son when he was younger and hope/have faith that the author will do better next time because I know he can.
