I guess the moral is that things aren't what they seem and men aren't great? Not sure..

i originally gave this a 2 star rating. looking back, that was completely unjustified. it was definitely a pain to read, with the myriad of names and (mostly useless) dialogue spanning pages upon pages, but this book was insightful and interesting (to an extent). this was an "idiotic" (hehe) choice for an introduction to dostoevsky's literature, and while it has moderately discouraged me from his body of work, i remain undeterred. the idiot was heartfelt, dramatic, and very quotable (i practically highlighted half the book). therefore, i now upgrade it to 3 stars.
Towards the end of the book, the story made me blushed a little. Then unexpectedly it depressed me so. The book started with hopeful optimism to dreadful misfortunes. Was it meant to imply that Christ-like figure really doesn't belong in the earthly world? That no such person could be that Christ-like without being crushed by the world?
But regarding Dostoyevsky's tough moment while writing this book, The Idiot captures sadness, hopelessness and powerlessness so acurately that it made me feel rather 'enraged' up to the last line.
How can someone be so bitter as the author of The Idiot? I couldn't understand.
