This is one of the most richest history books I have ever read, drenched in the history of the Sacklers and their role in the opioid epidemic in the US, this is an ambitious project about one of the most secretive families on the planet and somehow Keefe made this book possible. What an achievement ! This book is filled to the brim with research that is hard not to admire, how much time this took is beyond me.  At the core of this book, is greed and how money can change your morals, outlooks, empathy, your entire existence. Keefe also has such a great narrative voice where the book was never boring, just heavy. This is 100% a modern day classic that should be talked about more. I can’t wait to pick up Keefes other work.

2.5/ 5 stars. This book definitely had some really eye opening and intriguing information. However it had more boring crap happening. I had this sucker cranked up to ludicrous speed by the end just so I could be done with it.

Really well written book, very interesting, but also terrible to learn how evil some people can truly be. I see how it can happen through the generations, but it is still very troubling. I hope the Sacklers lose it all, but I fear they won’t.

The Sacklers may have cut a deal to be immune from any civil litigation involving Purdue or oxycontin, but they are not free from the potential of criminal litigation :) I hope they lose all their money and die in shame!
