You are the only you. Just be who you are. Silly, hopeful, unique and kind.

This book tries really hard, but like other books by this author/illustrator it misses the mark in quite a few predictable ways, erasing human diversity by replacing it with anthropomophized animals and with colors that are loud and exciting but not found in the human skin spectrum. This book conspicuously did include some faces that were "peach colored", but not any other color that naturally appears in human beings, and especially alongside language like "be a different color" heavily implying that people of color are "different" with whiteness as the unacknowledge default, this struck me as especially problematic. I would encourage readers to approach this book with a critical perspective and use it as a way to raise questions about how diversity is portrayed in media.

This book managed to spark an interesting conversation between my 5 year old and myself pertaining to when she wants to be herself versus wants to pretend to be other beings (particularly Sailor Luna). It gave me a lot to think about in terms of how she sees herself. I got this from the library but I may have to purchase it for several rereads.

I liked how this book's message to be proud of who you are extends to one's native language, family, and country. In today's climate these are often characteristics or traits used to ostracize, criticize, or demoralize others. However, Be Who You Are motivates readers to take pride in this.

The nephew picked this book out for our reading together. I do love Todd Parr’s artwork. This is for beginners with a line a page. It is a positive feel good book on being yourself and being proud of who you are. It reinforces that thought over and over.

I might need to get this book for myself and just read this book every day for a bit of self-confidence every morning. It’s a great book.

The nephew likes the artwork for these books. The story was ok. He gave this 3 stars.

A celebration of individuality and a great message, but no story arc. I would only use this in conjunction with another book that had a strong story.
