Really a beautiful book. I read it right after Demon Copperhead (also an excellent book) which felt to be largely about the ways that adults can be cruel to children. There are cruel characters and dark parts of All The Light We Cannot See, but the kindness and nobility of the characters really shines through. Emotional, gripping, sad, beautiful, and incredibly hopeful.

Gonna be harsh because of it won a pullitzer tbh. Its a pretty standard WWll story about a german soldier and blind french girl of a similar age. Really enjoyed the parts about the Natural History Museum and the descriptions of scenery in general but the overall plot was simplistic and a little predictable. Also theres a jarring unnecessary sexual assault scene near the end of the show that really took me out of the story and definitely made me like the book less as a whole. Wouldn’t read again but wouldn’t talk someone out of reading it either tbh.

The beauty of the writing and story cannot be overstated. Be prepared to absorb, to forget, to re-read, and re-read again — paragraphs, pages, chapters. This author fits so much meaning into so few words. This story spans decades and nations, grabs you by the elbow and leads you along the journey, at times gently, at others aggressively.  Savor the experience and emotions and don’t be surprised if a few tears fall.

I liked the plot wrapping -- one of the best I've read in ages.
The key part, though, is just annoying.
