I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series, Mr. Mercedes. I liked that we had more time with the characters who were not “detectives.”
I find King’s “everyday” characters the most interesting.

Another King thrill-ride, this one centered around the unpublished writings of a beloved novelist stolen from his safe by his killers. Decades after the crime, a 13-year-old boy discovers the trunk containing the writings (and a good bit of money), and we're off to the races. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

very fun and not super dark as far as king goes
The second installment of a trilogy. I enjoyed the book. It had returning characters and a horrible villain all coming down to a love of books to put it mildly. It kept me interested and really sets up the final book nicely. Recommend.
4 stars ⭐️
Stephen King writes about books very well, we can see both sides here, the author’s and the reader’s/fan’s.
I really enjoyed the two opposite characters and views here. Hodges improved a lot as a character from Mr. Mercedes. He is the “main character”, being the detective, however he isn’t really the main character here, his participation is small and almost unnecessary. I only cared about him and his own little plot/development because I knew him before, from Mr. Mercedes.
