8/10 - so i finally got to reading ashley flowers thriller & it was great, it was a similar murder mystery story as jon bennett ramsey told in past and present tense which i LOVE, and was a fast passed read so that was also great, HOWEVER, the reason this book gets 8/10 & not 10/10 is because the ending leaves you on such a cliff hanger like wtf ash, THE ENDING KILLED ME, but yeah highly recommend to any age!

Lots of feelings about this one. First of all it was an entertaining read, but I ended up having a lot of issues with it.

The story felt forced, cliche, and filled with "plot twists". I was able to predict what would happen in the next chapters for each character. I felt like the way the author wrote the story gave the reader most of the answers to the "secrets" being kept. Red herrings were thrown in randomly and I felt like for Margot, all her research came too easily to her, like just in the nick of time she finds the exact thing she's looking for.

I'm rating this 2.5 rounded DOWN LOL (spoilers)

I was entertained by this book (not REALLY a true crime person but I was in an audiobook mood)

The thing that brings it down was that ENDING BRO WHAT???

also everything is so like.... Convenient??? Why is this random chick solving murders left and right? Why is Dave her uncle? (Duh kinda tbh but whatever) also convenient that there actually WAS a guy who was gonna kill January (and killed a host of other girls that this journalist reported on) but just so happened not to and then she was killed by her dad lol

WAIT OKAY SORRY she was actually kind of a freak because she brought up January to a guy who HAD been stalking her and had pics of her and had killed a DIFFERENT little girl with a completely different like MO or whatever and the guy was like

Kinda like everyone else’s reviews…the ending ruined it for me. Very abrupt!

The main thing that I didn’t appreciate was the depiction of Uncle Luke with dementia. Like very stereotypical dementia…definitely playing into those not so great stereotypes
