Any long-time fans of Mr. King would know about his drugs addiction in the 80s. Revival gives some insight into the author's struggles with drugs through the main character. The vivid and detailed description of an addict's struggle cannot be imitated by someone who has not gone through it. Overall, I would give this book 4 stars.

I can't say I loved this one. It was engaging enough to keep reading, but something was missing. When I realized I had less than 150 pages left, I started looking forward to the payoff...but the payoff wasn't that great. As always, Stephen King has amazing character development and his description is funny and detailed. Also, he keeps saying that this book is as close to autobiographical as he's ever gotten, so it was definitely interesting reading in that light. I just felt like I was waiting for the real story to start and it never really did.

Another great King novel, but one I never hear people talk about. I expected something completely different, but was not disappointed. Definitely not the “old-time religion” vibe I predicted from the title, but more of the “old ones” in an eldritch, Lovecraftian way. Spooky and fun and surprisingly bleak. King novels often have happy endings or at least bittersweet ones, but there’s very little hope at the end of this one.

Too slow; abandoned at 30%. I then read the plot summary, which validated my decision.

I strongly identify with the review that said “There was the potential of a really scary story here but it’s lost in the entire life story of this boring man.”
