A very interesting life story with Dark Tower references and lots of Lovecraft too.

King is definitely improving in these recent novels.

I was bored like 90% of the time. My first Stephen King book and I was expecting a lot of thriller and horror elements, but got almost none. What happened didn’t shock me. The book felt like a filler to kill some time. There was no suspense in my opinion and I was hoping for the book to end. Only near the end some weird stuff happened, but even then I felt no sense of urgency or excitement.

I agree with others who have said this would have been a great short story or novella. The bulk of the novel could easily have been edited to create a much more trim, compelling narrative. I blame the publisher—they most likely decided to go the lazy route and let the text go to press with minimal editing, knowing that anything with a “Stephen King” byline would easily sell.

A long story that follows Jamie from when he is six until he is sixty-one. I read this in a day. It's not my favourite King novel, but it is compelling and hard to put down.
