The concept was interesting and it wasn't too cheesy until the very end. It stayed closer to the original story than most twisted tales.
I can’t really fairly rate this because I didn’t finish, so don’t take my review super seriously.
This is one of the first times I’ve ever DNF’d a book, but I really couldn’t get through this one. I’ve read a few other Twisted Tales so far and enjoyed all of them, so I had high hopes. Some reviewers said it’s because this author is different than the one who writes a lot of them and she’s not as good, but I read the Frozen Twisted Tale by her years ago and loved it.
The writing style wasn’t very good. It was wordy and hard to follow and was full of lots of telling instead of showing to the point where it was obvious. If the Frozen one was like that, I don’t remember.
The book alternates between Snow’s perspective and the Evil Queen’s perspective, but I wasn’t compelled by the queen’s perspective. At the point I got to, I didn’t see any reason to really make her a villain you somewhat care about, which is usually the goal when you get the villain’s point of view.
I stopped about 30% of the way through and the plot didn’t go anywhere yet. Snow hadn’t even met the dwarfed. It just felt like it was dragging.
The book might’ve gotten better if I kept going, which I acknowledge, but I wasn’t motivated at all to continue reading. I really wanted to like this book, and the positive reviews made me hopeful, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me.

Thank you to @scholastic_au for sending me a copy of this book. I quite enjoyed reading this one, I hadn't yet read one of the Disney Twisted Tales and I thought it was going to be vastly different from the original but it wasn't, but I liked that about it. This time it is the Prince who is poisoned and Snow who has to save him and the Kingdom. The story goes between Snow and Ingrid the evil Queen to tell the story, there is also some flashbacks to their past as well. I felt the story flowed well this way and we got to learn how both characters got to be where they are.
.
I liked the way the story showed Snow as someone who was able to help herself, even though at times she wasn't sure how to do this. She meets new people along the way who help her out as well, The seven dwarves, the Prince and Anna. I liked the additions of different secondary characters as well. As much as I love the instant love trope sometimes, i liked that this story didn't quite have that in its entirety, they were both still unsure of each other and where things would go next which I think works well in a middle grade book.

I’m a huge fan of fairytales and Disney. Tell me who is not
Enjoyable, but slightly lacking. There was parts that wasn't explained and it was assumed we knew what happened because we saw the Disney movie growing up. A very good retelling non the less.
Like Cinderella’s Twisted Tale, I didn’t think I’d like this one because I’m not fond of the princess or her movie, but here we are with 4 stars and a high place on my overall rank list. Like Cinderella.
Maybe I liked it because it gave me Winter and Fairest (both by the queen Marissa Meyer) vibes. You know, you hate Ingrid/Levana in the princess’ POV but empathize with them in their own narrative? Even a little? Exactly. With Ingrid, I understood her motives and her progressive plans for the kingdom ... she was just extremely power-hungry and jealous. We also got a more headstrong Snow White who was basically the face of a revolution but she was still docile and compliant at times. Even Henri was improved in this book (he even got a name). He was useful as well. I liked their relationship development.

Spoiler
My only issue is that the supposed "twisted" part of the book is: What if the queen poisoned the prince? He wasn't poisoned till the end of the book and him being poisoned had no effect on the outcome of the final battle. Poisoned or not, I think the ending would've occurred the same way.Twisted Tales Ranking (as of 4/21)

We all know the original story of Snow White, but in this twisted tale the roles are reversed as Snow White has to save her prince that has been poisoned by her stepmother the Evil Queen. While this retelling of Snow White included all the main aspects of the original tale, it also included a new take on some of them

I really liked the characters. Snow was a very independent, outspoken character who didn't need a man to save her. I really liked the way she was headstrong and didn't let the Evil Queen just walk over her. The dwarfs were just as lovable as in the original and if anything were looked at a bit more in depth, especially Grumpy who I loved
·
My favourite character though was the Evil Queen, known in this retelling as Ingrid. I really liked how we got to see Ingrid's background and childhood which gives us possible reasons as to why she is the way she is. I also really liked how we got to see more of the magic mirror and what hold that had over Ingrid
·
I love a book written from multiple points of view and this one doesn't let us down on that front, you could see the difference in the writing depending on who's chapter you were reading
·
There were some parts of the book that were a little dry for me, mostly when Henri (Snow's prince) was involved. Plus the ending just seemed to spring out of no where and after all the great story building it seemed to be wrapped up within a few pages
·
That being said, I did really enjoy getting more background on Snow's parents and what the Evil Queen had actually done to the kingdom to earn her that name. I also really liked the writing style, it was nice and descriptive but easy to read

Overall a good young adult book that can be enjoyed by any age 3⃣⭐

I had high expectations for this book. The Evil Queen is a character I love, but I didn't feel like I was hooked by her story. She had all the right ingredients, but I found the execution slow, even stalling for a long time. The last few pages were more interesting, but I didn't enjoy it as I expected.
