I had many thoughts throughout reading this book. I knew it would be a 5🌟 about halfway through: I thought it was well-written, that it worked well as a thriller with the slow reveal of information and the creeping sense of dread. I love me an unreliable narrator, and this book executed it extremely well: from the very first pages you are trying to grasp what is real and what simply can't be.

Having finished the book, I wish I could say so, so much more about it, but I truly think it's a book best experienced with as little previous knowledge about it as possible, so I will keep my thoughts to myself and simply note down some words that evoke the feelings I had as I was finishing up: heart-breaking, tender, horrifying, compassionate, hopeful, beautiful, maddening.

To clarify one last thing: I guessed the main twist a little less than halfway through. I still found it an engaging, surprising and fascinating read. There were still plenty of surprises in store for me, but I don't think knowledge of the twist makes or breaks the experience of reading this book.

this book is like nothing i have ever read before. i went into it blind and would recommend everyone does the same (except for content warnings if you need to) for the best reading experience. a lot of reviews had spoilers in them, even if they did not mean to. this writing was so incredibly immersive, the characters were incredibly well-rounded, and the narration was like nothing i have ever experienced. everyone needs to read this. if you have already read this and are looking for something similar, Ian Reid is the closest comparison i can make.

This was a journey! While horror is normally not my genre of interest, the description of this book got me. I had no idea what the next twist and turn would be, which marks a good book in my opinion. This was hard to read due to the content it tackles but this book was absolutely amazing.
