Weird. Good initial concept. Then goes off the deep end. Old sci-fi so the misses are interesting in hindsight. Very male oriented.

Heinlein has a talent for picking out the most mundane aspects of a fascinating story and stretching them to fill 400 pages with sickening minutia. Also, this is one of the most sexist books I've ever managed to finish. His attempt at female characters in this (and in the other two books of his I've read) is a joke.

I was sold this as a "sci-fi" and that's what I was in the mood for. It's more of a socio-political religious commentary along the lines of 1984 and Brave New World. I will revisit when that's a book I am in the mood for.

The first 2/3 of the book were outstanding. I wasn't as thrilled with the ending, it seemed to lose focus and wander around a lot. Still a great book, I enjoyed it a lot.
