Marta's story had me guessing quite a bit what was real and what was not. Was she hallucinating and unable to tell what's reality like her family kept saying or is what Marta sees real like she insists? I flew through How to be a Good Wife in one short day and delightfully reveled in the words. The ending did disappoint me a little. It fit Marta's character perfectly, but I was hoping for a little bit more excitement. I felt like the story held a steady pace from beginning to end, but there was no specific moment where I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation or a moment that had my heart racing. Even with the lack of heart-racing excitement and me being able to guess the truth pretty early on, I did enjoy the adventure this book took me on.

I was lucky to receive an advance copy and I just finished it. Wow, this book was something else! I first got into it because it seemed to me she had some sort of mental disorder, which I can relate to. I had a little difficulty following sometimes when it jumped back and forth between her hallucinations, but the author did a good job and made me feel like I was in the head of Marta, so the jumping back and forth became easier. I began to follow her thinking, although I was not sure if she was remembering or hallucinating, at least not at first. And the ending was such a twist! It's interesting, because I was uncomfortable how her family treated her, but I really got it in the end.

********SPOILERS****************
The one thing I wish I knew more of was why Hector took her in the first place. Was it because he needed a wife and couldn't get one on his own? I'm guessing it was Stockholm Syndrome on her part. At fist I thought maybe she read something and turned it around on herself to make make it seem like it was real. Then at the end though, the memories kept coming and she was calmer, which convinced me she was kidnapped. I thought I would be more upset that she had to end up killing herself, because I HATE characters I become invested in dying off, but for whatever reason, it worked. Props to the author!

Good, creepy page turner, perfect for those who like to wonder about the narrator. Ideal holiday read. can't say too much else as it would be too easy to spoil.

Emma Chapman has managed to write a book that will keep the reader questioning the events for days after completing the book.

--Marta finds herself seeing images that she cannot explain along with a husband that keeps reminding her to 'take her pills' and an adult son that is clearly confused by her actions. Marta's actions take the reader on a roller coaster ride before the book comes to a close.--

The story may end, however the questions do not. Were things the way Marta believed they were or was it all just an elaborate story created by a sick mind?

Hard to follow at times when reading. Book made me feel crazy reading it !

A chilling unsettling story! It was hard to follow at times but helped paint the picture. You’d like it if you liked Gone Girl and Handmaids Tale.

I’m sorry what did I just read

I am so frustrated with this book right now, like ugh. I am so beyond unhappy with the and I was hoping that proof would be given about what Marta said was true or not. Obviously, it was a great book as it only took me 2 days to read, and I didn't want to ever put it down once i started reading it. There were twists and turns, and I was wondering why or what was gonna happen next. The characters are completely relatable. The relationships are also relatable and believable. I am very unhappy with the ending, but that's just my take on it. This does have some touchy subjects, so be aware of that before you read, but it is a very good book.
