I still have so many questions…!!!

Something about it kept me reading but I didn't enjoy it.
To be fair, I read the book in one sitting so it certainly had me hooked.

I can honestly say I’ve never read a book like this before, and for a debut offering it was pretty impressive. However, I felt like I was losing my mind alongside Marta, with all the flashbacks/memories. I felt like I was spinning!

Such an interesting read, held my attention from the first chapter. I guessed the reason behind all of it, but that didn’t take anything away from the writing or the intrigue.

The author leaves you guessing at the end, but due to a few little titbits, I believe ‘Marta’ was correct. Not saying any more than that as I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone!

Very interesting, and a strong 3.5-4 stars.

Marta is a middle aged woman who appears to have everything - a beautiful home, loving husband, successful son. However, with the arrival of a young, blonde women, this all begins to unravel. Chapman's book is an exercise in the ultimate unreliable narrator. Even to the last page, we are unsure who to believe as this strange tale unfolds. This essentially left me a little unsatisfied with the book as a whole, but it is eerily written, with suspense that builds expertly. Quite a good read.

This had a very interesting concept and I found it hard to put down. With its bleak, cold feeling it was a good book to read on a day that I was iced in at home. However, I ultimately found it unsatisfying.

2.75 Stars. And here's why:

Look, I'll read anything. Really, I will. But not everything is my cup of tea. I just can't LOVE everything. And this book, FOR ME, was one that I did not love. However, I did like it, for very specific reasons I mention below. Having said that, I can see why some people really liked this book. But for me, I just didn't. And it wasn't anything to do with the writing or narrative itself either. Let me explain.

See, I'm a bit conflicted on what to say about this book. I liked it, but yet I didn't. This type of book in general isn't my thing. Not because it was bad, just because of the creepy factor. So many who like the kind of books that give them the willies, will love it. But I don't. My lack of love for the book doesn't mean it wasn't a good, intense read though.

[I hope I'm making sense here. This is a hard book to review without giving things away and I don't want to spoil anything! I always find it hard reviewing books like this, where the storytelling is top notch, but the story itself just doesn't work, for me.]

I will say, that the writing, editing and narrative flow of the book was excellent. And the author hit it out of the park, as I said, with the creepy factor. So while the writing part of it gets a solid four, the fact I don't enjoy this type of read gets a 1, hence the approximate average of an almost 3. Despite that however, I look forward to checking out this authors other work(s) in the future. *keeps fingers crossed for less creepy though* (I know, I'm a baby. lol)

*I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*

Really enjoyed this, but I have thoughts that I can't really share without spoiling it.

This book was overall a good read; I enjoyed the story line. However, the ending made me question; nothing was wrapped up, nothing was resolved. No one believed or understood her and that made me sad for her. She left her nurse and son to worry about where she was. The book was an engaging but I thought the ending had lots of loose ends. A good beach read.
