Great little read, thanks to a very late running dentist I was able to finish this in one sitting!

3.5 stars
I listened to the audiobook, and I have absolutely no regrets. This book was highly entertaining and fun! I would definitely recommend it to middle grade age kids.

This review is by my 10-year-old who read the book and liked it.
He say's he enjoyed the characters, mystery and found the puzzles to be fine. Rated: 4.5 Stars

A really good book best mystery that I have read in awhile.

This book is a pretty good time, provided you suspend your disbelief.

I'm not a YA reader most of the time (yes, even the great HP I have issues with), so I had to work hard to get past that. If you don't worry about historical accuracy or character development, it's a fun read. Just let it take you away.

Excellent. Pulled me in from the beginning and couldn't put it down. Excited for #2!

A little bit historical fiction, a little but fantasy. This was a great read-aloud with my middle schooler. Well done.

Loved this story. Great characters, intriguing story, and fun puzzles to try to figure out. Oh, and nice work at the end. Don't mess with an apprentice!

A gritty historical setting, a murderous cult, puzzles and codes to decipher, and explosively destructive science, all packaged within a fast-paced mystery that keeps the protagonist and readers off-balance. I'm requesting the sequel as soon as I finish writing this review. Definitely recommended.

A WARNING: The recipes and remedies in this book were used by real apothecaries. There's a reason we don't see them anymore. Some are devious, some are dangerous, and a few are just plain deadly. So, as they say: Don't try this at home. Seriously.
