This is a cute, fun story, but it seems targeted for a younger audience than I anticipated. This is perfect for 10-13 year old group.

I absolutely adore this. The story was fast paced. It took me some time to get into it but after that I couldn’t stop reading. I loved the characters. You really feel the pain from the main character. I didn’t expect everything to be like this. It was mysterious but not terrifying. A good middle grade story. Really excited to read the other books in the series!

Good mystery and adventure story. Likable main character and trusty sidekick. It's 1660s England, and someone (or some group?) is killing apothecaries, and when Christopher's Master is also murdered, he leaves behind clues to help Christopher figure out what is really going on.
The Blackthorn Key marks the beginning of a series about Christopher, an apothecary's apprentice, his kind-hearted Master Benedict Blackthorn, and loyal friend Tom. Apothecaries are being murdered left and right. Christopher is worried that his master will be next on the list. He also wonders why his master begins acting out of character one day after an accident. How can Christopher help his master? Will the art of apothecary aid him on his quest? Join Christopher and his friend Tom as they try to solve the mysteries of the mysterious murderous cult and discover a mixture meant for only Gods.
