emotional hopeful sad fast-paced

A hard read, but necessary.
dark emotional medium-paced

Very raw account of the author's wife passing. Wouldn't necessarily say it's a helpful read for someone else's grief, since it's so specific. That said, beautiful and tender reflections.

While I don’t necessary agree with all the conclusions Lewis comes to with respect to God’s relationship with the loss of a loved one, I did relate to and deeply feel some of those emotions he evokes, as well as the internal debate around God. This is an incredibly personal and heartfelt look at his struggles after the death of his wife.

This allowed me to see the man, C.S. Lewis, apart from the author. I also learned of more writings by him that I want to read. The afterword was equally as revealing about the man and his personal and spiritual journey.
