Beautiful essays that are nearly poems interspersed with memoir. Reikl has a stunning voice & use of language. Her discussion on loss was deeply moving and insightful. My book club talks about “reading pathways” - this book is all about language and setting, not at all about plot.

This is the saddest book I’ve ever read, and perhaps also one of the most true and beautiful.

This is the kind of book I dream to write. Renkl builds such beauty around such mundane moments. You love and mourn along side her because the way she writes her family feels so personal. It's wonderful.

The writing itself was lovely and I really enjoyed the essays about people. I didn’t connect with the nature essays and found my mind wandering. For others, you may well appreciate all of this book, there is truly beauty in the thoughts and descriptions. It was just not entirely for me.
