If you could skip the war with France (besides the few parts that actually advance the plot), I'd give this book 5 stars. It was a relief in some ways, and a huge frustration in other ways. I am curious and ready to see how Graham ends the series with the last book.

An epic, moving, and suspenseful Poldark tale. This was the final novel for a long time and it’s easy to see why. A brilliant historical story that never loses its humanity.

The eleventh book in this series, and possibly my favorite. It’s the book of consequences—so much has happened over the span of decades in these lives, and now in book #11 the consequences of those decades begin to unravel. It’s masterfully done. I’m amazed by Graham’s ability to hold onto so many threads with such patience, allowing elements to linger in the background—across multiple books—until their perfectly-timed resurgence.

I love these characters and am sad I only have one more book left with them.

I love seeing how this family’s life plays out. I find it riveting and hard to stop reading, especially after watching the show on PBS

Another great addition to the Poldark saga! Winston Graham is truly a wonderful author. He writes with such detail that you can easily picture yourself in the story. He also writes about each of the characters in a way that you feel you know all of them. Even the characters who play more of a background role are given enough time so as not to be portrayed as a flat character.
The time span it took for Graham to write these novels also impresses me (between 1945-2002). He must have built quite a world of it in his head all those years!
Of course, this is not a book you could pick up out of order, a reader would get too confused with all of the information they don't know from the previous novels. All of the novels build beautifully onto one another. If you are someone who likes to commit yourself to a series and are interested in historical fiction, I highly recommend this one!

I can't really explain why I love this series so much. I just feel like these people are members of my family or something and I just have to find out their story. This book was every bit as good as the others. There are some detailed descriptions of battles, particularly Waterloo, and there are some truly heartbreaking moments. I'm not sure if I cried at any point in the other books but I definitely did with this one. Only one more book left in the series. I'm excited to finish, partly because I really feel like I can't read anything else until I have! But I'm also sad that this is the end. I can definitely see myself rereading these books in the future. I ended up buying the e-books because that was the only way I could find them easily (only the first three were available at the library) but I don't regret the purchases one bit.
