People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry — ★★★★☆

This book gave me Love, Rosie vibes in the best way possible. I cried so much because I truly understood both Poppy and Alex’s perspectives—like, just get together already! (Thankfully, they did.)

I loved the mix of flashbacks and present-day storytelling, all circling around the big question: what happened in Croatia? The structure kept me hooked, and the slow burn had me aching with all that yearning.

Normally, I’m not a fan of third-act breakups, but here it worked—it felt necessary for their growth.

So excited for the movie! I know I’d still be sobbing then.

Tropes:
• Slow burn
• Friends to lovers
• Opposites attract
• Third-act breakup

Best quote:
“Sometimes it feels like I didn’t even exist before that. Like you invented me.”

People We Meet on Vacation follows the story of Poppy and Alex, two complete opposites who built an unlikely but inseparable friendship through years of summer trips together. Over time, their travels became more than just vacations—they became the thread tying them together, even when life pulled them in different directions. The book explores themes of belonging, identity, and the search for happiness, all while weaving in the complicated push and pull of love and friendship. Along the way, Poppy meets many people whose connections, big or small, remind her that every encounter shapes who you are and who you’re becoming.

I give this book five stars because I related to so many parts of Poppy’s journey. Traveling, trying to escape your hometown, and chasing happiness in new places only to realize that what you’re really missing is someone who makes you feel like yourself—all of that resonated deeply with me. I loved how Poppy slowly learned to open up, and how Alex gave her the space to discover what she truly wanted. Each trip with Alex peeled back another layer of who she was, and the side characters, like the river raft lady or even the high school bully she ran into, showed how connections leave lasting marks. I especially appreciated how the story wasn’t just about romance but about coming into yourself first, and then finding the person who lets you be wholly you. It was emotional, heartwarming, and perfectly paced—even though I sometimes wished Alex would make a move sooner, in the end, I understood that their friendship needed to grow into love at its own time. This was the perfect blend of self-discovery, friendship, and romance, and I truly felt all the emotions reading it.

It was very obvious which way this book was going, but it was a good, entertaining, quick read. The main thing that bothered me was the lead up to what happened "2 years ago," and then it wasn't that big of a reveal. Definitely worth the read if you want something easy.
